Machine Setup

Unpack your machine and place it where you are going to use it. Here are some things that you need to consider when setting up your machine for training.

• Place the machine on the stand or table where you intend to use it.

• We need access to the sides, and the rear of the machine so place it at least 2 feet from any walls.

• Plug in your machine.

  • Some machines run on 110 volts and some on 220 volts.

  • Make sure your machine will plug into an outlet and that you have the proper voltage. You may need to consult with an electrician.

• Unpack your machine.

  • Go through all the things you received with your machine and lay them out. Some companies may send parts separate or may be delayed or overlooked.

• If you bought a used machine, make sure that you have all the parts to make it sew.

  • We need at least 1 hoop. Preferably 15 cm or 5 and 1/2 inches in width.

• Please set up your machine in flat mode.

  • Caps are more difficult to sew, and it is easier to learn on flats.

• Thread your machine.

  • Make sure you have enough thread for each of the needles on your machine.

  • Go ahead and thread the whole machine.

  • On multi-head machines you will eventually need to color match the needles.

    • On a 6 head machine you will need 6 spools of thread in the same color for each needle.

Things you need to have on hand for training.

Thread

You need one spool for each needle. There are a lot of different name brands and types of thread.

Bobbins are usually bought in bulk.

Backing

The basic rule for using backing is use cut away backing for everything when training.

Blanks or clothing samples

You should have at least two or three shirts and several blank caps for training. If you want to learn on bags or towels, please get some for training. You can get them from a local store, out of your closet, or visit your local thrift store.
