Embroidery Shop Setup

These are things that you may need as a new embroidery machine owner. These can be found on the Madeira website, but most embroidery supply companies will have something very similar.

Backing and Topping

There a basically two types of backing, Tear-Away and Cut-Away. Below is a link to Madeira's pdf for backing.

Suggested Backing:

24-75.8 E-ZEE CUT SUPREME 2.5oz: For general use.
24-75.8B E-ZEE CUT SUPREME 2.5oz: These are the same as above but used for dark garments.
15-75.8 E-ZEE CUT PERFORMANCE 2.7oz: Used for athletic shirts.
20-50 E-ZEE WEBLON NO SHOW 1.5oz: Used for larger patterns.

Topping:

101-23-25 E-ZEE AQUA SUPREME 20mic: Used on towels or fibrous material. Keeps the fuzzies inside the design.

Needles

Needles come with basically 3 points:

sharp or spear
ball point
leather

102-65-B MADEIRA NEEDLE #65/9: Smaller needle for finer detail.
102-75-B MADEIRA NEEDLE #75/11: medium size needle for general purpose.
102-100-S MADEIRA NEEDLE #100/16: Larger needle for caps.

Bobbins and Thread

What is the best brand and type of thread? This is like arguing Ford and Chevy. People will fight you over which one is better.

Bobbins:

12434 MAGNETC SIDELESS BOBBIN L: My favorite but more expensive.
308-503 MADEIRA SIDED BOBBIN L: Cheaper alternative.

Thread: I would stick with the same name brand and avoid mixing the thread types. I would buy the larger cones of basic colors for some of my needles and the smaller spools for specific designs that may not be used a lot.
